11th Annual Mahoning Valley Slovak Fest, Youngstown - OH

WHERE: Held on the grounds of St. Matthias Church, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, 2800 Shady Run Avenue, Youngstown OH 44502

WHEN: Sunday August 14, 2016 11:00 am til 8:00 pm

WHAT: Slovak food and baked goods, music, Slovak items for sale and displays about Slovak heritage;

DETAILS: Slovak/English Mass at 11:00am at St. Matthias Church (915 Cornell Ave across the lot from the festival) and continues after Mass in the parking lot and school hall until 9:00pm.

Outside there will be Slovak food of all sorts available. There will be halusky (with real dumplings), holubky (stuffed cabbage), pirohy, klobasa and kraut (kysla kapusta!), roast pork sandwiches, BBQ chicken and even hot dogs, fries and ice cream and of course Slovak beer, all served outside all day.

Inside from noon until three we will be serving a “Taste of Slovakia” platters with breaded pork cutlet, klobasa, kysla kapusta (aka sauerkraut!), holubky and halusky. (The platter menu may change before next August).

There will be a great selection of Slovak baked including kolace and kiffles, palacinky (crepes) along with Slovak crystal and other Slovak items for sale.

There is also a great Slovak Heritage corner showing many beautiful items on display such as authentic Slovak kroj (folk costumes), maps, corn husk dolls, photos, books, embroidery and informational items.

There is also a basket auction and a gas card raffle good for food or gas.

Musical entertainment will be provided all day long. The music starts after Mass outside and continues until about 8:30pm and includes room to dance! There will also be a Slovak folk group performing inside after the dinners are finished at 3pm.
