The Limbora Slovak Folk Ensemble of New York
was established in 1966 (history – the first fifteen years), and is situated in the heart of Manhattan. Its members are primarily of Slovak descent and live in the metropolitan New York City area; however the Ensemble's rich repertory of folkloric dances, music and songs has attracted all ethnic and performing arts enthusiasts.
Limbora presents traditional folklore from the European Community's Slovak Republic, the home to the Carpathian Mountains. Its repertory represents an array of cultural temperaments from the many unique regions of Slovakia such as the swift polka-type movements from eastern Saris to the intricate ethnic dances of western village of Myjava, the romantics of Slovak gypsies and the zesty songs and dance movements from Detva.
Training and rehearsals are conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 11:00 PM in the auditorium and facilities at the Church of St. John Nepomucene on 67th Street and 1st Avenue in New York City.
All interested individuals are encouraged to contact the Ensemble.
