The 6th Czech & Slovak Film Festival of Australia is here!
12 – 26 September 2018
Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Federation Square, Melbourne

Some of the films illuminating the 6th CaSFFA include:
Opening Night film is a terrific, in some way romantic thriller The Hastrman (Hastrman), a wonderful debut film from renowned jazz singer and actor Ondřej Havelka
Věra Chytilová retrospective including Daisies (Sedmikrásky), The Apple Game (Hra o jablko), Something Different (O něčem jiném), Prefab Story (Panelstory aneb jak se rodí sídliště), and Traps (Pasti, pasti, pastičky)
A hit comedy Bear with us (Chata na prodej) with brilliant czech acctress Ivana Chýlková, straight from 2018 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival
Barefoot (Po strništi bos), the final film of director Jan Svěrák, which chronicles the life of his widely beloved father Zdeněk Svěrák, is charming comedic drama.
A huge domestic hit The Oddsockeaters (Lichožrouti) is a colourful, highly entertaining animated feature for kids and adults!
Backstage, the Slovak box-office-smashing hit with an infectious rhythm and thrilling dance sequences.
Closing Night film is the last film Miloš Forman shot in his native country. The Firemen's Ball (Hoří, má panenko), is a hilarious satire skewering committee authority.
Attendees of our Opening and Closing Night events will enjoy the hospitality CaSFFA is famous for: they will receive a Becherovka cocktail or Josef Chromy sparkling wine upon arrival in the cinema, and there will, of course, be a fabulous party afterwards with beer from the Foreigner Brewing Co, nibbles and with Vardos performing live on Opening Night and Opa Bato on Closing Night
Attendees of the Opening and Closing Night events will also enjoy:
Fee cocktail upon arrival in the cinema
Opening Night afterparty with Bohemian Nights live performance
Closing Night afterparty with Transylvanian Gypsy Kings live performance
· Sunday 16 September 2018, at 2pm in Melbourne Town Hall - Czech organist Pavel Kohout will perform works by Bedřich Smetana and Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by his own live score to a wonderful (mostly) silent film from 1933, Ecstasy (Extase)
Free admission, bookings essential
Exhibitions: ACMI Building: Themes and Variations, 1918 – 1968, “I expected the worst”
